NEW ACT ANNOUNCED FOR A FISTFUL OF TWISTED FOLK III PLUS AN UPDATE FROM DIZRAELI AND THE SMALL GODS
Twisted Folk are excited to announce that the final artist has been added to the collaboration project for A Fistful of Twisted Folk III in the form of rising UK Hip Hop star Jam Baxter.
He will be joining Dizraeli and the Small Gods, folk singer Chris Wood, and flautist Philippe Barnes for a special performance which is not to be missed!
We caught up with Dizraeli himself to find out how the project was going. See below :
“Several rehearsals and two long nights of whisky in, the Twisted Folk collaboration is growing strong, in spite of the difficulty of pinning down so many busy artists at once. Chris Wood has just won Folk Song and Folk Singer of the Year at the BBC Folk Awards, which only serves to increase the awe I feel at being able to work with him. The more we write together, the more I recognise the similarities between his artform (folk) and mine (hiphop): really what we’re both trying to do is identical, telling everyday people’s stories in a way that shows they matter, with as much honesty as possible. Of course, there’s differences- one tune we’re working on is a remake of an old folk number called Two Magicians, in which a shapeshifting blacksmith battles a lady for her maidenhead. We’ve turned it into a battle between the flute and the turntables – Chris definitely raised an eyebrow at that. But this is about reinventing tradition, going in there with both respect and irreverence, and I think we’re all enjoying that game.”
